A list of my must-try restaurants would definitely include Jackrabbit Filly, Wild Olive, Husk, King BBQ, Minero and Boxcar Betty's

For a fun evening on the weekend during the summer, I recommend walking through the Night Market to take a look at all of the crafts made by local artists and vendors, and following that up with a drink and some hors d’oeuvres at the Gin Joint.

For the truly adventurous explorer, a day trip to Bear Island or Donnelley Wildlife Management Area will delight the bird nerds and wildlife photographers.

For a walk on the wild side, take a drive south and visit the Angel Oak on Johns Island and then continue your journey south to Edisto Island where you can spend the day taking in the natural beauty of this undeveloped Sea Island.

Culinary picks on Edisto:

  • Highly recommend eating at the Sea Cow for breakfast. They have excellent grits and the french toast is one of my favorites.

  • For lunch, head on over to Tortugas Mexican Grill to grab a burrito. The variety of homemade hot sauces are definitely worth trying.

  • If you want to host your own dinner, head to Kings Market and pick up one of their ready to bake casseroles, tomato pie, corn pudding or one of the best key lime pies in the area.

Katie's (CFA's Adminstrative Assistant and Social Media Manager) picks:

To start your day....

My favorite spots for coffee around town are Cafe Roca in West Ashley or Metto in Mt. Pleasant. I think the best bakery in Charleston is hands-down Welton’s Tiny Bakeshop! Don’t let the line scare you as it moves quickly and is always worth the wait.

For bagels and breakfast sandwiches, try Ruby's Bagels. Cacio e Pepe with scallion cream cheese is my order!

The one place I can be found every weekend is Waffle House. If you haven't tried this iconic Southern spot, it is a great place to fuel up before your Adventure!

I always order a pecan waffle & hash browns smothered & covered!

For dinner...

  • Must Try: Salsa Tasting + The Minero Burrito.

  • Must Try: Margherita pizza + House Ranch.

  • Must Try: You can't go wrong with any of their fresh pastas or pizzas!

  • Must Try: Paneer Masala + Ragada.

  • Must Try: Zucchini Fritti + Cacio e Pepe + Stretch Armstrong.

On a nice night, I love to grab dinner at the Post House in Old Village and then head down to the Pitt Street pier for a walk to catch the sunset! This spot is also the perfect place for a picnic. (For breakfast, grab bagels from Rubys. For lunch, sandwiches from Mozzo. For dinner, pizza from Iggy's)

Bonus tip:

If you are heading to the Hilton Head/Savannah/Beaufort area from Charleston, make sure to stop at Carolina Cider Company/Clockwise Coffee on the way! Located right on the side of the road, they have my absolute favorite coffee in South Carolina. Don’t forget to grab some boiled peanuts to snack on during the drive!

Rain day activity?

  • Head to the Mace Brown Museum of Natural History! This free museum is part of the College of Charleston and features exhibits on dinosaurs, mosasaurs, megalodons, ocean life and more!

  • The Charleston Museum is the oldest museum in the country! Check out the Bunting Natural History Gallery for a great assortment of fossils (including a mounted skeleton of Pelagornis, the world's largest known flying bird)!
