Ah, the beauty of the curved form! These smooth pebbles aren't your ordinary "river rocks!" Deep underneath the layers of soil in Charleston are remnants from ancient river systems. These discoidal quartz pebbles worked their way from ancient mountains, down mountain streams, and into alluvial deposits laid down by rivers that cut through fossil-bearing layers of the earth. Commonly found in the Wando and Waccamaw formations, these pebbles tumbled right alongside many of the fossils recovered in Charleston, and were collected by CFA staff members for this charming pendant.
